For Pediatricians & Physicians
When a patient's learning, attention, development or thinking raises questions that an office visit can't settle.
Primary care is where most of these concerns first come up, usually in the last few minutes of a visit. A neuropsychological evaluation gives you and the family a full answer to work from.
Children and Teens: When to Refer
- A positive or borderline autism or ADHD screen
- Suspected dyslexia or another learning disability
- Attention problems where anxiety or mood may also play a part
- A bright child who is struggling at school (possible 2E)
- A family that needs documentation for a 504 plan or IEP
- Persistent school or thinking problems after a concussion
Adults: When to Refer
- Ongoing problems with memory, focus or word-finding after a head injury
- Changes in thinking after a collision, fall, workplace injury or toxin exposure
- Patients involved in a personal injury claim that turns on cognitive or emotional changes
What Comes Back
A written report covering cognitive ability, academic skills (for students), attention, memory, executive functioning, and emotional functioning, with any diagnoses that fit and specific recommendations, including guidance for treating clinicians. Families can share the report with your office.
A Primary Care Research Background
Dr. Tutty's ADHD trial was conducted in a pediatric setting with Harlan Gephart, MD, and his depression trials with Greg Simon, MD, studied primary care patients starting antidepressant treatment. He knows how little time a primary care visit allows and writes reports to be usable in that setting.
