Frequently Asked Questions

Short answers to the questions people ask most before booking a neuropsychological evaluation.

What is a neuropsychological evaluation?

A set of standardized tests that measure how the brain is handling attention, memory, language, reasoning, processing speed, executive functioning and emotion, combined with a detailed history. It explains why someone is struggling and what will help.

Who do you evaluate?

Children, adolescents and young adults ages 5 to 22, and adults after a brain injury, including adults involved in personal injury cases.

How is this different from therapy?

An evaluation is an assessment that ends with a report and recommendations. Therapy is ongoing treatment for symptom relief, for example for depression or anxiety. Teen therapy is offered on a case-by-case basis.

How long does it take?

Testing is one full day in person. A full evaluation plus the written report typically takes two to three weeks. Timelines are discussed during the consultation.

Is testing in person or online?

Testing is in person at 353 Lexington Ave in Manhattan. The consultation and feedback session can be in person or by video.

Will I get a written report?

Yes. You receive a comprehensive written report with the findings, interpretation and recommendations.

Do you take insurance?

The practice doesn't bill insurance directly. You receive paid invoices with insurance codes to submit for reimbursement at your insurer's contracted rate.

Is financial help available?

One needs-based scholarship is offered each quarter, covering a full evaluation for a family that couldn't otherwise afford it. It follows exactly the same process as any other evaluation.

Do you accept referrals from schools, physicians and attorneys?

Yes.

Do you do custody or divorce evaluations?

No. Dr. Tutty does not provide custody, parenting or other divorce-related evaluations, though he does consult with judges, commissioners and attorneys in high-conflict family law matters.
