Neuropsychological
Evaluations in Manhattan
Something isn't working the way it should, at school, at work, or since an injury, and nobody can tell you why.
A neuropsychological evaluation measures how the brain is handling attention, memory, language, reasoning and emotion. Dr. Steve Tutty evaluates children, teens and young adults (ages 5–22) and adults whose thinking changed after a brain injury. Testing is in person at 353 Lexington Ave; feedback is in person or by video.
What the Evaluation Is
Standardized testing of attention, memory, language, problem solving and mood, compared with what's typical for the person's age.
Read the BasicsChildren, Teens & Young Adults
Learning problems, attention, autism questions, 2E profiles and school accommodations, with recommendations for home and school.
Child EvaluationsAdults After Brain Injury
Memory, focus or mood that changed after a collision, fall, workplace injury or toxin exposure, including personal injury cases.
Adult EvaluationsCommon Reasons People Call
Most people don't start out looking for a neuropsychologist. They start with a problem that hasn't gone away and answers that haven't quite fit.
For a child or teen
- Grades are slipping even though they're working hard
- Reading, writing or math lags far behind how bright they seem
- Attention problems, but you're not sure it's ADHD
- Questions about autism or social development
- A gifted student who is suddenly struggling (2E)
- The school wants documentation for a 504 plan or IEP
For an adult
- Memory or concentration changed after a concussion or head injury
- Losing words, losing track, or slowing down at work since an accident
- Headaches, fatigue or irritability that haven't cleared up
- A normal scan, but you know something is different
- A personal injury case that needs an objective record of what changed
From First Call to Written Report
Every evaluation follows the same basic path. A full evaluation plus the written report typically takes two to three weeks.
- 1
Free 15-Minute Consultation
A short phone or video call to talk through the concern and decide whether a neuropsychological evaluation is the right tool.
- 2
History & Records
Developmental, school, medical and work history, and any earlier reports, so testing is aimed at the real question.
- 3
One Full Day of Testing
Standardized tests of attention, memory, language, reasoning, processing speed, executive functioning and mood, in person in Manhattan.
- 4
Feedback & Report
A feedback session in person or by video, then a written report with specific recommendations.

Experience With Both Children and Adults
Dr. Tutty has more than 30 years of clinical and forensic practice. He has evaluated or treated over 2,300 children and adolescents, and evaluated more than 535 adults in personal injury litigation, many after traumatic brain injury.
That range helps. A child with a learning disability and an adult after a concussion can both say "I can't concentrate," but the cause and the fix are different. Sorting that out takes good testing and a careful history. His peer-reviewed research in JAMA, JCCP and the Journal of Developmental & Behavioral Pediatrics keeps his recommendations tied to evidence. Evaluations are provided through Aspyre Psychology.

What Colleagues Say
“His evaluations have been especially helpful in personal injury cases, as well as children and teens struggling in school.”
Madison L. P.Clinical/Forensic Psychologist“I have worked with Dr. Tutty now for over 12 years and I have found his neuropsychological evaluations to be very helpful in differentiating complex diagnoses, especially for children presenting with a wide array of issues.”
Dr. Nuri K, DBH, LMFT, MHPTherapist“Dr. Tutty has approached each IME in an evidence-based manner, which at the end of the day helps both sides figure out the proximate cause of the neurological deficits and steps to take in the rehab process.”
Mike BPersonal Injury AttorneyReferring a Patient
When a screening result is unclear, or a patient's school or thinking problems don't fit a single diagnosis, a full evaluation can sort it out.
Dr. Tutty's ADHD research was done in a pediatric practice with Harlan Gephart, MD, and his depression research with Greg Simon, MD, involved primary care patients. Reports come back with clear findings and recommendations a busy office can act on.
